How do I paint raised letters?

On the radiator and rear end of my tractor I have raised lettering. I have attempted to paint it with a small brush but the results were poor. The coat of paint was not even and the paint ran down the sides of the letters. How do I paint these things and wind up with an even finish with sharp edges?
Thnks, James

I have always used a piece of foam.....coat one side with paint and lightly dab on the lettering..... It takes acouple of coats but will look very nice.....Atleast it has always for me!

James: I have had some luck using a hard rubber
(ink ) roller, coated lightly with paint.
(off the record,I've been known to use the center
out of a roll of t.p. with part of a broom handle
thru it with surprising results, too).

Had a sign painter do my 850 Ford hood lettering, she did it free hand with a small artists brush, took her about 15 minutes. I gave her a twenty and was on my merry way. It looks as good as factory original.

Happy lettering, and hollidays!

Finish coat entire letter area with paint , take care to mask beyond what area you need, then after paint is fully cured apply a painters quick release mask sheeting {like masking tape but much wider}hand cut with x-acto knife the letter edge. make sure mask is covering what you want to remain 1st color {make sure mask is on at edges} Lightly sand remaining exposed areas [You may have to get a little creative using yor knife to rough up the small corners. Paint 2nd color,
Before 2nd color is cured remove mask and clean any overruns with rag corner and a little thinner. Masking sheet is available at sign supply shops
