I am fixing to paint my hood and fenders on my 2040 and I had a few questions, how is the quality of the JD paint at the dealer,do I need to use the JD primer underneath the paint, what is the drying time of the JD paint, can I use a self etching primer such as Vari-Prime underneath the JD primer, any other tips or ideas would be greatly appreciated

Blake, For the money, the JD paint seems pretty good. Right out of the can it takes forever to really cure so you'll need to use hardner for a good cure time and durability. I would suggest that you take your paint to the local auto paint supply store and show them what paint you are going to use and they will be able to tell you what primer, reducer and hardner they have that works best with your paint. Also make sure you clean and degrease your parts first. It's been my experience that the painting is the easy part.
