I am getting ready to paint my tractor and was looking for some advice on cleaning, I have removed all of the sheetmetal, I am wondering just how clean do i need to get the tractor, I plan on getting several cans of easy off for the grease but I have some chipping paint in some hard to reach areas, I am not going to show the tractor but I still would like for it to look nice, I do not have access to a pressure washer and I really dont care to sandblast, and I dont see any need to sand the block and transmission

I just got some advice from a rebuilder that does an excellent job. He said he uses 4 different small wire brushes on drills to get the hard to reach areas. He uses a wire brush on a 4 inch grinder to get the easy to reach areas. That's what I plan on doing.

At the least you need to wire brush everything. The block and transmission are no different from the sheet metal, if you don't do anything but get it clean, the paint may not stick for long. The way it looks after painting depends on how much time you spent preparing it.
