In reviewing the tech sheet for DuPont/NASON "Fastdry" acrylic enamel (no hardener = no isos) I have noticed that "recoating after 48 hrs" is indicated as possible. I am skeptical of such a claim. PPG's competitive product, OMNI MAE, makes no such claim and indeed, recommends AGAINST recoating due to possible lifting.

If the "Fastdry" product can eliminate the typical sensitive recoat period for conventional air dry enamels w/o isocyanate hardeners, it would be the exception rather than the rule.

Not having used the product, I cannot say if it can be safely recoated any time soon. If anyone has experience with recoating this particular paint, please advise. It could be an important consideration for those casual painters w/o supplied-air equipment that are trying to avoid the potential health problems with isos. See also my post below to JDPete.

This stuff does lift after 24-hrs trust me. If you don't use the hardner it lifts even after 3-4 weeks, and is impossible to sand out imperfections as it clogs the paper

I've used PPG's Omni AU MTK for about 6 months now. I've used it with and without acrylic enamel hardener. It doesn't seem to matter when you recoat. I've recoated within minutes, hours, days, and a week. No crazing, no lifting. Currently I'm painting a Ferguson TO-20 in a 42 degree shop. I use the hardener with it and it dries in a day, the I recoat. If I don't use the hardener, it takes a week to dry and even then it's a little tacky. I recoat anyway. Looks great! I've done all the cast iron with a brush! The paint levels out! The sheet metal gets the HVLP gun set at a small pattern to limit what goes into the shop. Can't ventilate the shop, it's 15 degrees outside. But I do leave the shop immediately afterward. PPG Omni is great paint and a little goes a long way. A gallon of computer matched grey cost $67.
