I recently painted my A/C Model M. I purchased my paint from a good name brand store. I was not happy with the quality. I am about to paint my John Deere. Is the paint from the dealer any good? What brand has any one had success with? Thanks,Stan

I have used JD - classic green right of the dealer's shelf on over 20 2 cylinders that I have done and use a local wet-look or PPG hardner and it has always had good results for me. I recently saw a tractor that I painted 6 years and it still has a good shine to it after 6 times.

I've found that John Deere brand paint is a very good choice, some of the cheaper paints can go "blue" on you. I recently painted my 1949 B with it and had my cousin who runs one of the notable autobody shops in our area get me some good hardener for the paint--dried nice, turned out nice and shiny. There's just not quite any green like John Deere Green :) Just my two cents worth

There are at least 3 "qualities" of paint, the house brand you bought from your name brand store, paint from the tractor dealer, and the high quality paints, such as those from PPG DuPont, and Martin Senour (sp?). People seem happy with the tractor dealer paint or the high quality paint. Those who use the "store" paint are usually dissapointed. The best, longest lasting paint is the high quality PPG, etc paint. It is also the most expensive.

Stan, I am by no means an expert but I painted my B last year using JD paint and I've been pretty happy with the results. I have recently painted a JD 430 and it also turned out good. The general consensus amoung the people that I have talked to seems to be that the JD paint isn't the best there is but is good paint for the money.
