Regarding the hood a JD MT, there is considerable rust, corrosion and loss of metal [about 1.5 to 2"] around 25% of the muffler hole area only, the portion that goes down the side/away from top. Is there a technique and/or material that can repair and restore the integrity of the hole and also withstand the heat from the exhaust system that will not crack and.or blister with paint? Thank you inadvance.

Yes , you can cutout the affected area and insert
metal. Form the metal to the same shape and weld it back in the area. If you spotweld at random points
you will not induce warping. Continue welding until the seam is solid. Take a disc grinder, smooth pad, and level the surface Use body hammers/ dollys and smooth out the metal. Never will know it was repaired. This is a little bit of an art. You could also take it to an autobody shop, just tell them you don't want it filled up with Bondo.
