I always here about guys talking about wet sanding. Is this something you do to acrilic enamels and urethanes or are they talking about clear coats? What does wet sandind accomplish and do you paint over it after wet sanding? Thanks for any responces!

Wet sanding allows the removal of the "waste" material being sanded to prevent clogging of the paper and/or scratching the surface. On sheetmetal wet sanding does fine, I do machine tools so water doesn't get used. [Rust is not a good thing on tools!] Primers can be wet sanded with no problem. Paints can be wet sanded to remove inperfections or to level the surface on clear coats. Now just don't start sanding the paint as it takes a complete process of sanding, buffing to get the shine back. When wet sanding clear coats the water removes any grit so you don't keep rubbing grit into the finish. This is important when you are using 1000 thru 1500 grit paper.
To achieve the show quality finish, most items are sanded then polished out. Did this on a custom candy, metallic Harley bike job. The tank and other parts looked like a mirror, nice deep look.
Ovekill for a tractor!!
