No, not tractor or automotive paint. House paint. More specifically, house trim paint.

I have always been a fan of oil-based paints for woodwork. I have also been accused of living in the past :o). I have never had any experience with latex paints but have been advised by some that latex has made so many advances in recent years that it now far surpasses the performance of oil based.

I am currently painting some wooden side panels for a utility trailer and decided to try some latex paint. I am using "Duration" exterior latex by Sherwin Williams. It is advertised as being the "most durable and longest lasting coating available for protecting the outside of your house". The stuff is noticeably thicker than other paints and is supposed to provide a "more flexible", "tenacious bond" coating that resists peeling and flaking better than others. So says the literature from SW. It is expensive paint at $40 per gallon.

Does anyone have any experience with this paint? I am considering using it for repainting some house trim work this summer. I am tired of repainting this trim every few years because of peeling and flaking paint. The known advantage of ease-of-cleanup of latex is not a particular consideration of mine.

Thanks for any comments.

Hey Rod -

Just wanted to drop you a FYI about ArmorPoxy @ info@armorpoxy.com This paint says it will bond to wood and stay great for 10 plus years. I told my brother-in-law about the site and he just ordered 3 gallons of plat.grey for his deck floor.
When he applies it I will let you know how it goes and lasts.

Hello Rod, I have had no experience with SW Duration. I do have ample experience with SW SuperPaint and EverClean. The SW EverClean is by far the thickest interior paint I have used over the past 12 years. It is virtually industructable. Kids can write on it, smash hockey sticks into it leaving huge black lines, smear playdough on it and whatever else you can think of and all I have to do is wipe it down with warm water and soap. This paint does not fade, scratch, or peel like other paints - even the best HallmanLindsey, BenMoore, and Behr can not stand up to EverClean.\
So I hope that what they say about SW Exterior paints will be true ! Good Luck
