Further to my previous postings I bought a stand alone HVLP system. I am impressed so far with its performance. It really does cut down on spray dust. I have used it on two pack paint using my main compressor for air fed mask it works well. My only concern is the plastic low quality gun that came with the system. I cannot see it lasting long. An aluminium replacement is available almost double the cost of the full system?

Ray, I have a Wagner HVLP turbine system that has a plastic gun. I have used it many times without a problem. The link below shows the HVLP in action on the front page. What do you use to clean your gun? It may the cleaning media that is giving you the problem. I use lacquer thinner on mine.
By the way, I’ve been looking for a fresh air mask to be feed from my air-compressor. Can you tell me something about yours?

Randy

I can't offer any specific technical information. Guns using compressed air, whether HVLP or syphon-feed, won't put out material or atomize properly when the compressed air peters out. I believe that a turbine-type HVLP gun would have to be mated to the turbine for proper performance. Gun specifications will have to be compared. I started with a small Campbell Hausfeld, in 1995, that cost about $300 and has an all-metal suction gun, not gravity. The same unit is still sold, except with a plastic gun, and the price has dropped quite a bit. The CH served the purpose well enough, so in 1997, I bought a small Graco 3-stage turbine for a little over $1000, also with a suction gun. The Graco output is 103 cubic feet per minute at 6 to 7 pounds per square inch (they're not kidding about high volume and low pressure). The CH and Graco both use identical 3/4" i.d. hose between turbine and gun, and the hose fittings mate. The Graco puts out a much greater volume of air and material than the CH. The expensive gun that you're considering may require a greater volume of air than your turbine can produce. I'm sure you're aware that compressed air HVLP guns won't work with a turbine.

I don't remember the specs for the CH turbine. The CH website has tool manuals and trouble-shooting guides that can be downloaded.

Hi George
The system I bought in the UK was the basic system. I am not sure of the specification. But it cost about £80 sterling just over a $100. The turbine whilst a little noisy seems up to the job. I used it today on a Fergie bonnet and the results are as good as I could get with a conventional gun, without all the mist. Even though my standard compressor is 3 hp and has a 150 litre tank. It works overtime when I used it with a low pressure gun and air fed mask. also I had to trail two heavy hoses. The problem I have with plastic gun is that the bottle is becoming hard to screw on to the gun probably reacting to the solvents. I am so pleased with the results. I think I will buy the aluminium gun priced about $200 which is compatible with my turbine
