I am restoring a Co-op E3 and its finally ready to paint, but the serial number is gone so I have no idea where it was sold, what year it is, and what the correct color for it is. I am assuming that the serial number was on the seat frame, which is not original on my tractor. Is the serial number somwhere else that i have overlooked? any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Dan Williams western PA

The serial number should be on the top edge of the frame in about the area of the distributor. It will look something like "49-30-XXXXX". In this case "49" is the year, "30" Cockshutt model and "XXXXX" is the serial number. The Co-op E3 is a Cockshutt model 30.
Since my painting talents don't allow the use of $200/gal automotive paint, I plan on using VanSickle "Pumpkin Orange" on my Co-op E3 ($16-20/gal). www.vansicklepaint.com
Go to www.cockshutt.com for more info and paint codes.

The first three CO-OP models were built by Huber and later by Duplex these were painted with DuPont Red, code B8241, Orange 43790. The # 3 was made in 1937-1938.

Go to www.cockshutt.com for painting colors and
info. I don't know of another location for the
serial number except the frame. Early 30 models,
1946-47 had cast iron brake covers and later
models had the open drum brake. If you determine
which you have from this info you can pretty much
guess which CO OP color to use. Paint and decals
changed in early 1948 then stayed the same for
the production run. With no serial number you're
pretty free to paint it whichever color you like
best as the correct police won't know either.
