when i am priming sheet metal for my tractor, i get this appearance as though the primer was dry before it hit the metal. this only happens in places. i am using a simple lacquer primer with 70 to 80 degreee thinner.

obviously, i don't paint much!! thanks for any advice.

Terry,
Sounds like your shooting your primer too dry. Try turning up the paint volume on your gun to get a wetter coat. May have your air pressure a little high also, but if you turn up the paint volume on the gun you should be able to compensate for it anyway. Just open the paint volume knob on the gun up about 1 or 2 turn and see what happens, if it's still dry looking open it a little more until you get the desired results. Word of caution, you'll be more likely to get runs in the primer now, so watch out for that but you should catch on and put be able to put down a pretty good coat of primer.

Hope this helps a bit.
