I have a 15" x 30" cage made from 1/2" rebar with about 2" spacing on the bars. When I attach the battery charger it pegs the meter then trips the overload circuit on the charger shutting it off. This occurs on all but the lowest setting 6v @ 2amp. with this setting it sits with the needle almost pegged but does not shut down. How can I get more power to the solution. Or what else is wrong.

Do you have the solution in a non-conductive vat or tub?
Is the anode touching the part you are trying to clean?
Does the battery charger work normally otherwise?

Just a few thoughts

I tried the electrolysis today. I could only find Arm and Hammer Washing detergent(for laundry). It does not say washing soda. The process does not seem to be working very good or at all. Am I using the wrong stuff in the water. If so, where do you find washing soda. I have been looking for it in large supermarkets.

You got the wrong stuff, See my ARM & Hammer posting above. Give that stuff to the wife for doing laundry.
Seems to be available in supermarkets here, Box is about 8x6x2" yellow with blue letters.
You may be having the same problem I had finding it, supermarkets are set up to be used by women.

Here in Tenn. our local co-op carries "soda ash" some tobacco farmers burn it under their tobacco to get a darker finish. This is PURE sodium carbonate. This is what your lookin for in the washing soda. This stuff really works wonders. I have been using it for the last few weeks to clean parts for my SuperA. I pitch the parts in the solution at night and come back the next evening and take them out.I only have a 6 amp battery charger. I have found that if you take and scrub the parts with "brillo" pads after soaking, it really shines the parts up for painting. PS the soda ash is about 12.00 for a fifty pound bag. Enough to do bunches of parts!
