Has anybody tried this? A friend of mine was telling me about it today. I bet a tractor or implement would look good and smooth if it was powder coated. Any comments or advice appreciated.

I do custom powder coating. The finish is more durable than liquid paint and more rust resistant. There are also no sags or runs in the finish. I have seen almost all the OEM colors for agricultural equipment. The parts to be coated must be free of rust, oil, paint, and moisture to achieve the best performance. There are alot of small powder application tools on the market, I don't know how good they are. The thing that you have to have is an oven big enough to hold your part and able to maintain the proper cure temperature. On a tractor, unless you would completely take it apart, I would think someone might want the sheet metal, rims, lift arms, etc. powder coated and the motor and drive unit sprayed with regular paint.
I've included a link for more information.

I think there is a guy on the N series board that goes by Tyman who powder coated a 9N and it looks real good. I did wheels and fenders on a Ford 4000 about 5 years ago and I think it is hard to beat. I did not have choice of shades of color however and had to take the grey that they coater had....it isn't exacty Ford grey. It is tough as nails though and real smooth finish.

Tom:

Power coating is a very durable product when it is complete. The finish typically you can not beat. The only problem is the power coat systems typically require to be cured at 300 to 400 degrees. This system would only work if you power coated the steel parts and assemblied after it was painted or would work fine on larger assemblies if you have room in the curing oven.
