Go to the Oliver forum and holler for Bruce Banning. He does this for a living. He has done some work on his Oliver 550 that sounds pretty interesting. He is located in PA.

Powder coating doesn't come up much on these pages however it does on a truck page that I visit. I have never done powder coating or even seen it done however I have researched it and learned what is required.

Powder coating is done by electro spraying a powder on a part then that part is heated to above 400 F for a length of time and the powder liquifies and forms a smoothe surface. when the finish cools it is very hard and can have a very shiney surface. It is chemical and solvent resistant and a very durable surface.

This being said nobody uses it for body work. This is likely because the finish is not as mirror perfect as a good quality paint can be.

Obviously heating to 400F can be a challenge when you are talking about something the size of a tractor but this is not impossible. Many classic car and truck guys have there entire frame powder coated by professional shops. The finish lends itself to undercarage well due to it's tough nature. The professional shops can also blend power colours to get the desired shade.

Hope I helped answer some of you questions. I certainly would not invest the money in having a tractor powder coated.

Do you mean powder coat the whole tractor? I'm curious about how that could be done since I'm under the impression that powder coating has to be baked on in an oven. Maybe that's not the case?

From what I understand yes it has to be baked on,as for the the whole tractor,I guess it would depend on if someone in your area had a booth big enough to get a tractor in to bake the whole thing.
The guy I talked to said, that if he can't paint everything, then he tries to match liquid paint to the powder coat paint because you can't match the powder to the liquid but match the liquid to the powder.
I thought about taking a couple of side sheilds to him to see what it would look like and see if I would even like it or not.
