I just painted a supercab truck with the PPG "CONCEPT" brand Urethane paint and it worked great. THought i would give you some details. I am not a professional, i get a lot of info from several of the locals on this board. Spend most of my time on the ALLIS board. My local aoto body paint supplier said if i wanted a clear coat quality, without the clear coat problem, to try the Urethane COncept brand of PPG paint. For primer i used the DELTRON NCS 2004 with a NCX 2200 catalyst and DT870 reducer (thinner). YOu mix it 2 paint, 1 hardener, 1 reducer. I mixed a gallon "total" and that was enough to primer the supercab. THis is a primer sealer and can be painted over after an hour. I let it set 24 hours, then sanded lightly with 240 paper to get the fuzz and a few bugs off. I have onlly painted 4 or 5 trucks in the past 10 years. I paint outside the barn door, in the grass so i routinely get a few bugs and a couple runs. After cleaning this up, i wiped off and painted with the Concept. This is "CONCEPT DCC", i used DFX11 hardener (called supercharger) and reducer DT870 (thinner). You mix it 2 parts paint, 2 hardener, 1 thinner. I mixed 3 quarts of paint and made 7.5 quarts of paint and it put on 4 medium coats. I painted the walls of the bed inside, but not the floor.
---The great thing i noted is that ther was very little overspray. THe grass was still green after i moved the truck. FIrst time for that. I did not get overspray on my glasses or hair, as normal. I used much less paint than i thought i normally do (3 quarts??). I paint outside with a small breeze and wear a half mask. Cant stand long shirts or hats. Has anyone used this stuff with similar results, or was i just lucky? THe stuff flows out well, covers good, and shine is great. Dries to the touch in about 10 minutes. Supposed to get real hard in 8 hours. I am not a rep for PPG, just a user with very good results. Last thing i painted was 3 years ago, tractor, with PPG Delstar 60080. Looked good, but got it all over the ground, shirt and hair.

Hi Steve,

Were you using the same gun and similar air pressure? I would guess that would have more influence on the amount of overspray than the paint but I could be wrong.

I have never tried PPG's CONCEPT, which I think is their standard line single stage acrylic urethane. Do you happen to know if it is available in a 60080 color mix? I believe it would be a step up in quality level over their OMNI MTK which is also an acrylic urethane. I know the 60080 is available in the OMNI line because I have used it. I just don't know if it also available in PPG's higher end standard products.

Can you still get Delstar mixed in your area? I used to use it quite a bit years ago. It was an excellent quality acrylic enamel, similar to DuPont's Centari. I can no longer get it in my area in any color mix because my local dealer stopped stocking the mix colors. I suppose since AE has just about completely been replaced by AU in the auto refinish area, the Delstar line was no longer profitable to hold on to. Centari is still hanging in there but may go the same way soon since both DuPont and PPG are now marketing AE in their lower end product lines of NASON and OMNI. Unfortunately, Centari is not available (at least anymore) in an AC Persian #1 color mix.

i agree on all. i used Delstar a few years ago. now the dealer pushes the CONCEPT. I did not ask if he covered Pursian orange #1. that will be my spring project. He had a Ford and GM color book that covered the last 10 years and said "pick a color". last time i painted 60080 i also used Delstar, which i dont think he has. In fact, he ordered the Concept overnight. Said all he stocks is the base colors for clearcoat. everything they paint is clearcoat now.--- was using my $59 gun that i bought 5 years ago, with 45 psi pressure. dont have a clue of why it worked so good, but primer and top coat both had very good coverage and didnt use much paint.
