I am going to repaint a Ford 3600. I want it to look as good as possible for field use.
What color are the wheels and what paint do you guys recommend? I believe I remember reading on this forum that Ford gray changed over the years. The color of the wheels looks almost white, so is it still called gray or white or what?

Hi Sam
The color your looking for is called "Gray Gloss"
It looks white but when you really look at it close you'll see just the slightest hint of light gray in it.
Two quarts will do nicely if your doing all four wheels. It's also the same color used on the fenders. There will probably be enough left to spray the fenders unless their the large flat tops.
I highly recommend the factory pack paint from your local ford/new holland dealership. It's of excellent quality especially when mixed with a high gloss hardener and good quality acrylic enamel reducer from your loacl paint supply shop or napa. Never use New Holland or John Deere brand thinners to reduce your paint as they are closer cousins to mineral spirits than a true reducer and will ruin a paint job. Good Luck!

Sure thing Sam! The new holland part number for the gray gloss in a quart is: M20J-1750-SE2DS
Spray Can: M1J957SE5DS
Hardener from Napa, Econo brand #15115 or #15117
High Gloss and Super High Gloss but I can't see any difference hehe. This is a pint but ask for a half pint as that's all you'll need.
And ask for a gallon of their econo acrylic enamel reducer in Fast dry so it cans set up quickly for the next coat and minimize your chances of running it. There should be enough left for gun cleanup.
58 to 62 psi at you air regulator for your spray gun should work good.
Mix it 45% paint, 35 to 40% reducer and lace the hardener in it, about 3 to 5% of total mix volume. Takes about 3 coats to cover nicely. You should be able to a great finish and do it on the cheap, under fifty bucks.
Good luck!
