I am using a sandblaster to strip a JD D and was wondering after I blast does the metal need to be treated before applying epoxy primer and after priming does it need to be sanded and if so how much, what grit, wet or dry?
Also wondering since it is my first time sandblasting what areas to avoid due to sand contamination(bearings, seals, etc.)
Also need to bang out dents in fenders. Do you apply heat and if so whereabouts around the dent?
Any help would be appreciated or redirected to more resource material online.
Thanx!

I don't have a sandblaster (except for a spot blaster), and I'm not a fender expert. As to the epoxy, most of them don't sand very easily. On the cast, if you have a good gun and at least fair painting skills (like me), you should not need to sand, since cast is rough anyway. On the tin, it is best to use a primer surfacer over the epoxy before the topcoat, this can be sanded smooth and reapplied and sanded until you are satisfied with the appearance. I have not tried sanding epoxy, but I would guess if you feel you need to sand it, and are applying topcoat directly over it, wet sand with 400 grit. Try not to sand to bare metal, or you will have to reapply. I really don't think you will need to sand it. Stuff goes on pretty good.
