I'm currently trying to refinish some fenders. I don't have a heated area to work in. Are there problems with trying to do standard primer/surfacer and finish coating when the temperatures drop?

You'll need to mix your paint thinner than usual to get it to flow out better when it's sprayed. On the coldest sub 20 degree winter days my shop will get down to 45 by the time I get done spraying a full size tractor even though it was 80 when I started. Good ventilation : )
Drying times will increase and paint will not lay down as smooth as those spring/summer paint jobs. Just keep them warm for a few days after you paint. You don't want to paint them and leave them in feezing temps to dry though.

Another thing you will need to watch is it will be very easy to get runs with even a slight drop in temperature. Most automotive paints offer a faster reducer and hardner for painting in cooler temperatures. It should really be at least 60* when you paint although I have done it down to about 50* without problems but like Gene said you won't get the same quality as when it is warmer, on the belly of a tractor that shouldn't be a problem though.
