I recently acquired a sandblaster and am wanting to start restoration of my MH 55. I wanted to pool suggestions as to the procedure I should use in sandblasting the machine short of removing the engine as I do not have the means to do so. My thought was to remove the hood, grill, radiator and hydraulics reservoir and wrap the engine in rubber while sandblasting the rest of the tractor. Any thoguhts would be greatly appreciated.

I have been rebuilting stump grinders and brush chipper for some time now. I remove as much sheet metal as possible and then sandblast the rest. I even do the engine but make double sure all opening are covered. I use masking tape first then duck tape and plenty of each. Have never had a problem. Be careful of hyd cyl rods.

I have used masking tape and taped the area I wanted to protect then I take a can of that foam in a can that you can buy at most hardware or building supply stores and spray it around what I want to protedt. This is the only way I have found to keep the grit out. If you can find the product called Black Beauty made by Reed Materials use it instead of sand. It has no hazzards like the silica in sand.
