I have read with great interest and respect the posts regarding the dangers of isos. My question is this. If conventional respirators with charcoal filters are not adequete for protection against isos then how is the discharge from commercial painting facilities filtered to assure the containment of isos before entering the atmosphere outside the facility? Is it a case of dillute and disperse?

I just bought a supplied air system from Hobby Air. After reading everything I could get my hands on I figured I couldn't buy many lungs for $400.00. I bought the half mask with the hood over.

The better auto body shops usually have filters, etc. to remove any ISO's from the air, but don't bet on it happening. I'm affected really bad by the exhaust from paint shops that use ISO's! The place where i get my gasoline is across the street from an auto body shop, and if they are painting, i have to get away asap! I go into a wheezing spell, and can't get my breath. I painted cars with a charcoal filter when hardeners first came out. Nobody told us of the dangers from that stuff, nor did they sell air-supply masks then! (30 yrs ago!) The commercial filters let the overspray and paint fumes go down into a water pan, to let the paint settle out, then it goes thru charcoal filters, and other filters, but some gets out, especially if the exhaust system isn't cleaned regularly!
