Hello all

I am in the process of painting my tractor and yesterday I painted the hood sections of my ford 4000 with the pait from New Holland. I know I messed up using their paint and that it will not last as long as other quality paints. That said and out of the way before someone reminds me. Today I wet sanded the pieces because I got bugs on them yesterday then recaoted, when they started to dry the paint crinkled. So my question is how long should I wait after before I can wet sand and recoat without the samething happening again?

Thanks,

BigWill

I painted a couple tractors and some implements with cheap implement enamals and it's a trick to get get them on right. Knowing what I know now, I would save the rest on the cheap paint for a plow or shed door and go get some PPG Omni MTK. So much for rubbing dirt in your wounds. The crinkling problem you have is from putting on multible coats too quickly, or too much paint on in one coat. When the cheap paint is thinned enough to go through my HVLP it takes about 5 coats to get enough paint on. The first day I can get two coats on without a problem, let a day pass and give it another, day pass and another coat etc until you have it covered. This assumes good drying temps and humidity, any quicker and the problems you experinced arise.

Thanks Rusty

Lesson learned, I am about 75% done with the painting so going to try and stick it out.

Since you now have an unwanted crinkle finish, you'd better go buy a can of air-craft stripper at the local auto parts store, apply it liberally, scrape off the mess, and start over! Just be sure to cover whatever you don't want to strip--that stuff would take the hard cover off yer mother-in-law's heart! RJ
