I just finished a JD 420 off and borrowed a friends Accuspray hvlp setup. I thought it was a pretty neat and hassle free way to spray. This unit was a yard sale special he pd. $200.00 for. I was thinking about it and around here we have alot of fence, equipment, barns and projects always needing attention in the paint department. Not to mention the I rebuild and re scrape precision machinery and use high solids 2 part epoxies to finish them. I bet a few of you guys can fill me in on the specifics and different qualities of the turbines and what make guns you prefer for producing fine finishes. I'm pretty much a novice at spraying but fell in love with this compared to shop air spraying. Any advise on selecting a good, durable unit that will last and produce good results time after time? I see American Turbine, Fugi, Grayco and others.

Thank You,

scott#2

Well, I waited a few days for somebody else to respond because I have never used a turbine system. I have (once) seen one operate and they do a good job but I dont think any better job than a HVLP gun hooked up to shop air. When comparing the price of a good turbine system against the cost of an HVLP that plugs into an air compressor most of us already own I see no advantage to the turbine. I hang around a good body shop a bit and they try to use the best equipment for the job at hand. They could easily afford any turbine system but use gravity fed HVLPs that run on shop air. On another note I can't imagine a paint gun that would be good for both a fine finish on a car or tractor and painting a barn as the materials used are two completely different animals.

I have an accuspray turbine system and like it! I have sprayed everything form water borne laquers (for woodworking) to automotive enamels to regular old household latex paint. They'll even spray contact cement (used in the countertop industry)! You achieve this by changing needles and nozzles. The company I work for was a dealer for accuspray, and I quizzed the sales rep extensively before buying mine. The accuspray guns are of simple design, durable, and replacement parts are readily available. As far as the difference between the turbine and an air compressor... the turbine produces a large volume of warm, dry air... moisture is NEVER a problem!!! As you know, compressors can sometimes double as a water supply! The accuspray salesman tried to explain to me several times how a regulator at the gun inlet can convert 10 cfm air @ 40 psi into 60 cfm air @ 5 psi... never did convince me!!! that's another reason I bought the turbine. I'm not saying the conversion guns don't work... I think they're just not as efficient as a turbine that truly produces 100 cfm at 5 to 10 psi. For laying down a slick finish, the accuspray is the best system I've used!

I mis-spoke... don't know what I had on my mind, but, what I meant to say was you can spray a variety of different materials by changing needles and air caps. The accuspray system has about 5 different sizes (if memory serves).
