On yer hood, sand out all scratches with #80 grit automotive grade sand-paper. Feather out the sanded places about an inch or so. Then sand the painted areas with #220 sand paper, preferably the white paper. Or, you can wet sand it with the #220 black paper, although you'll have to let it dry well. Mask any decals with masking tape. Buy 3M for this, 3/4 inch tape. Prime the hood with the primer that will be compatible with the type of paint you want to use. (Not knowing if you are going to paint it yourself, i can't recommend what primer to use. Maybe somebody like "CNKS" who posts here will be able to help you better.) If the hood has any cracks in it, it will have to be repaired with a fiber-glass patching kit. Post a question for "CNKS", maybe he'll answer! RJ P.S. Wear dust filter masks when grinding, sanding the fibre-glass! And goggles for grinding it! And, it itches like fire if ya get it in the wrong places!!

Never painted fiberglass, but the P-sheet for PPG Omni MP 170 Epoxy primer says it can be used on fiberglass.

O.K. I used to do fibreglass repairs, back when the Avanti's were popular! But, laquer primer was all we had back then. The newer stuff has come out since i retired about 7 yrs. ago, although there was some new stuff then! That's why i told that other guy to post a message to you, since you seem to be "up" on the newer paints! I had to get out of the body work/ painting trade, because the hardener got to me! When hardener first came out, the paint reps didn't seem to think anything was dangerous about it! After painting with a regular, 2-cartridge mask for 3-4 years, the damage was done! And then, the newer paints came out, with the different hardeners, etc., and they finished my career! Now, if a body shop is exhausting paint spray near where i'm standing, i go into an asthma attack, can't get my breath, start to wheezing, and if i don't leave immediately, they'd have to call an ambulance! I have to ride around in my truck with the window open, my head sticking out the window, to get more air in my lungs! So, any advice you can give that guy about painting fibre-glass will help him. I limit my painting to spray cans, and Rust-o-leum, with sponge brushes! Those sponge brushes do a fairly smooth job. Tried them yet? My grandson loved his Radio Flyer wagon, painted with them! I've really only painted the last couple of years, so I don't know anything about the older paints, other than a little I did back in the early 80's -- these paints are immeasurably better. I always read a lot before I do something. Most of what I have learned about paint was from this board and many emails to and from a serious hobbiest who answered one of my questions on one of the painting boards, and actually taught me by email most of what I do now. I am already allergic to isos, but not to the extent you are. I worked as a research agronomist for the Kansas State Experiment Station for 29 years -- used many herbicides, often without a mask (It ain't goona hurt me!), and became sensitized to many of them. Apparently that is the reason I became sensitized to isos -- probably something about my immune system being tired. Back to the original subject -- the hardener for MP 170 epoxy primer does not contain iso's, and he can use unhardened surfacer over it if he wants too, and sand the surfacer, then topcoat.

And-- everyone learns on this board. I have gotten a lot of ideas from people like you, Rod(NH),Butch, and others. Rod is the one who told me that the catalyst for MP 170 did not contain isos, I originally thought all catalysed primers did.
