Can I spray a clear coat over factory JD green. My John Deere 70's paint is about 2 years old and still looks good but I was wanting to wet sand some minor scratches and just spray over decals and all. Will this work without getting up under my paint and lifting it or wrinkling it?Thinking about doing this. Thanks

Jack, it depends! on the J.D paint, how old, type of clear, how heavy of a coat. I have had pretty good luck with urethane clear over the newer synthetic lead free paint if it is well cured (yours should be at 2 years) & the first coat is not put on too heavy. When sanding the entire tractor (required) use 1200 or 1500 so the sanding scratches don't show through the clear, I have had bad experiences with a coarse scotch pad in leaving scratches & opening the base coat to deep penetration by the clear & the possibility of lifting & cracking. I'm not sure about going over the decals as they might curl or pucker so you might try on a practice decal first. If you do decide to try it, dust on a light first coat & let it flash real good so the next coat(s) can be put on heavier & wetter without soaking into the base coat very far. To get a good even clear coat using urethane you need a good gun that is approved for urethane paint or be prepared to do a lot of wet sanding. The secret to getting urethane clear to lay flat is to spray it as even as you can so you can put on a heavy coat that will lay out flat, the only problem is the possibility of runs. Don't even attempt it in cool weather as runs are almost a assured.
