I'M NEW TO THE PAINTING GAME AND AM SHOPPING FOR A NEW GUN. I'M CONSIDERING THE DEVILBISS FINISHLINE 2 HVLP GRAVITY FEED. HAVE ANY OF YOU USED THIS MODEL? COULD I HAVE SOME FEEDBACK ON IT'S PERFORMANCE? I'M RESTORING A 35 WC AND WANT A BEAUTIFUL PAINT JOB. WILL THIS GUN GIVE ME THE RESULTS I'M LOOKING FOR? THANK YOU, JEFF

Jeff,
I bought the Finishline II and could not believe how nice a job it does and the amount of paint it saves. I am not a bodyman or painter by trade but did achieve excellant results on my first "big" paintjob. Nothing wrong with the quality of the Finishline II.

Hi Jeff,

Well, I'll give you an opinion. Everyone wants a "beautiful paint job". I happen to believe though that when it comes to paint spraying, the quality of the end product has more to do with the person doing the painting than the equipment used. That is not to say that great jobs can be had with junk equipment. They can't. But the best equipment doesn't guarantee an acceptable job. Very good results can indeed be had with something less than the very best and most expensive. DeVilbiss is a big name in spray equipment and has been for many years. They also can be on the pricey side. I have no particular experience with the actual gun you describe but have no doubt that it is fully capable of producing a fine result. Call me biased maybe because my three guns are all DeVilbiss. There are a number of other manufacturers and models however that are equally as good, I am sure.

Whatever gun you get, if you are new to painting by spray, you should plan on doing a considerable amount of practice on vertical sheet metal before you charge ahead on you tractor parts. It's not difficult but it does require a certain knack that can only be learned by trial and error. Best that the error occur on a test piece than on you tractor hood. It would be well worth your time and additional expense to do this.

Haven't used one but have heard good reports -- Get the Finishline III instead of the II as it has a steel insert for the cap, or perhaps the whole cap is metal, I don't know, the II is plastic. I use a Sharpe Platinum, less than $200 for a refurbished one from www.sharpe1.com. There are many good paint guns.
