Have any of you ever taken the support channel out of a 2N hood? I am trying to decide if it is spot welded to the hood where it makes contact along the length of the hood. I know there are welds where the cross members are but not sure about the remainder. There is a lot of rust behind mine and I know if it is left there the hood will rust through within a couple years.

Say, in case you haven't determined if the reinforcement is welded in or not, here's how to tell! Put a little twist on the reinf. after you get the side edges disconnected from the hood. Assuming the paint is still on the hood, if you twist it a little, forward & back, you can "sight" along the hood, and possibly see little dimples where any spot welds are. If none are seen, ya might have got off lucky! And, by drilling out the spots on the ends of the reinforcement, it may just fall off by itself! Don't drill thru the hood on top, just along the edges! If you have already stripped the hood, spray a little black laquer on the area where you think it may be welded. Then, after it dries, do the test outlined above! Rusty Jones

Hi Gary...
Just thought I'd let you know that there are 2 Gary's in WV with similar "handles" here on the board.
I have a 46 2N and a couple of Farmalls and stay mostly over on the Farmall Board

Gary

What part of WV are you located? I am about halfway between Charleston and Huntington in Red House, WV.
