Since I retired last year and tackled my 2N restoration, I have become good friends with a neighbor down the road that is in the body shop/painting business. He is going to paint my tractor for me when I get it ready. He took over this business when his father passed away a few years ago. He is not using any supplied air at all, only a half face respirator. Can some of you give me some information on the suplied air systems available for this. I am very familiar with North and MSA respirators and industrial in-line air systems but know nothing about what is available for painting. I would like to talk him into letting me help install a system. If I can come up with something that doesn't cost a small fortune I think I could talk him into investing in one.

You might look at www.autobodystore.com, or simply do a search for supplied air systems. I have a Hobby Air, but it is not suitable for a commercial operation, because it doesn't meet OSHA specs. Unless he needs a mutiple hookup (large shop with more than one painting at a time) you don't install it, just plug it in.

Hi Gary,

While the Hobby-Air may be a good choice for the part-timer due to lower cost, I would think if your friend is working with isos in a small business for himself, a more appropriate system might be one of those available from SAS. I have no particular experience with either manufacturer since my system is "cobbled together" more or less. If I were in the market for a replacement however, I would be looking at one of the SAS complete systems that uses the separate air pump. Regarding cost, the Hobby-Air is about as low as they go at $400-$600 as far as I know. I would expect any of the SAS systems to be more, perhaps significantly more.

Thanks for the responses. I have added both sites to my favorites and will research both brands.
