I was wondering what works well for you guys. What is your next step after sand blasting the sheet metal? I like to DA it with 80 grit before I do any priming or puttying. That seems to get that sand blasting "roughness" off the metal. What is your opion on this? I'm always interested in hearing new ways of doing things.

Hi Jack,

If I sandblast, I usually just go right to a two part epoxy primer (two coats within the hour I might add) without any additional treatment. I use Black Beauty blast grit as the media, blasting to a bright metal condition and have always considered that the resulting "profile" provides all the "tooth" needed for good adhesion of the epoxy without any need for sanding. I have also not found it to be too rough either, since for sheet metal I follow the epoxy with a surfacer to fill in any remaining profile. There's nothing wrong with your method. I just have not found the additional sanding step at that point in the process to be necessary.
