I have never done any spray painting, but am going to start soon. I have read many very informative postings on this board. It contains lots of great info. I have found a Wagner Capspray 5000CS turbine(no hose or gun) in a pawn shop in very good shape for $60. I will be painting tractors. Would this do the job adequately for a beginner? Would I have to use a Wagner gun, or could I use others with this turbine? Thanks for your advice.

I would check into the price of a gun before buying that unit. I suspect that the different turbine systems operate at different pressures and flows and myself would not chance another brand gun that I probably could not take back. So you have something to compare to you can purchase a HVLP that runs on your shop air and is good for the serious hobby painter for $150 or less, beginner guns start out at around $50. I am leary of another electric pump to keep maitained (such things have a habit of konking out on me at the worst times) and dont like the cumbersome hoses used on the turbine systems. Others have them and like them. Hopefully they will jump in here too but as I see it the value in a turbine system is that a person without a decent air compressor can do quality work. If you enjoy painting and can afford it you will soon have a good compressor anway, turbine system or not. Good Luck
