Can you sandblast tractor rims with the tires still on them, tires are good and really don't want to take them off. Can take tires and rims to place and have them done, want your opinion on this. As always all replys welcome. Don c

Have to agree with all the responses, and Butch has hit it right on (at least with my experiences). A good cover of rust on the outside of the rim has just about always proved to me there is an a large amount of thick flakey rust on the interior of the rim, enough to warrant removing the tire and tube and getting out the needle scaler and super-duty wire brush. More so if the tires have been loaded with calcium.
If the rim interior does have that flaked rust, it will puncture the inner-tube at a most inopportune time.

I have a habit of cleaning and painting what I can't see from the outside, as well as what I can see -- Take off the tires, sandblast, prime with epoxy primer and paint inside and out. But, as the two previous posts said, the answer to your question is yes.

Sure, no problem blasting with the tires on the
rims. The sand won't hurt the tire. Just make sure and clean the tires well before paint and
blow the dust out from near the rim.

Yes you can sandblast the rims with the tires on as the sand just bounces off the rubber with little effect, make sure there are caps on the valves. I would question doing it though as I seldom see a rim that is rusty on the outside that isnt rusty on the inside.
