Dearborn Blade paint question

I recently bought a Dearborn utility blade and it appears to be of the same vintage as my 49 8N. I would like to clean it up and paint it or have it done at a local body shop. Any recommendations on type of paint and color. There is some paint still on it but it appears to be a darker shade of red than the Ford. Thanks!

Hi Pat,

No suggestions on color but if this is a blade you are going to use productively, I would recommend relatively frequent painting with a relatively cheap enamel paint...at least on the "business" surfaces. I once painted one of my Fischer snowplow blades with an expensive polyurethane paint. It was a waste of good money. Rocks and dirt scrape and chip a high-end paint as easily as a low-end one.

If the blade will not be used, you can't beat a modern urethane for long term durability. You could also consider a urethane on the protected surfaces and a cheap enamel on the business surface. It might be hard to perfectly match a color with that combination however, if that is important.
