I have a 37 JD Unstyled B that I am restoring.

For the paint process I am going to use JD green paint with with automotive grade reducer and hardener. I was considering using the omni line epoxy primer for the body and sheet metal. Is it compatible with JD green synethic paint. The hood is the only sheet metal on the tractor and it is brand new. My question is that since the hood is brand new, do I need to cover it with a surfacing primer after the epoxy primer. If I do, can I get away with using a rattle can surfacing primer because the hood is small and wont take much primer to cover it. Is it ok to use a lacquer surfacing primer? Thank you to anyone who responds to this posting.

The Omni epoxy primer will be ok. You may also be satisfied with the JD green without a surfacer. However the epoxy will not go on absolutely smooth, and is not sandable. I'm not saying a spray can surfacer won't work, but since you have a spray gun, one of PPG's surfacers will do a better job. I do not know if the JD topcoat is compatible however.
