I'm Using the Enamel sold in John Deere Stores to give a 630 a paint job. I would like advice on the best etch primer to use with the stuff. I'm rather ignorant on enamels, as I usually only use epoxy. Any help is appricated. Also the owner of the tractor would like to buy some flat top fenders for the thing...advice on where to find those would be helpful as well.

Just use an epoxy primer. In the PPG Omni line and probably the Dupont Nason line, etc the same epoxy primers and surfacers are used under either enamels or urethanes. There is no advantage to an etch primer rather than epoxy primer unless the metal is new and you don't want to sand it. Others on this board have said not to use etch primer on cast because cast is porous and the acid may react with the topcoat, I don't know. You should not have any problem with an epoxy primer under JD synthetic enamel, although I have never used JD paint. It is best to take the tractor to bare metal, unless you are sure the old paint is sound.
