I'm in the process of having an Oliver 550 restored and would like to de-rust and paint the manifold. Any suggestions???

Thanks!

I have used several high heat paints including that sold by Eastwood. By far the best, and cheapest I have found is BBQ grill paint. It will survive anything but red hot.

Would you recommend de-rusting with something like that POR-15 or Evapo-Rust, then painting it?

Yes it needs to be cleaned. I have no experience with the chemical rust removers or converters. I just sand blast mine.

It can be sandblasted. There are high temperature paints that work well. Eastwood (www.eastwood.com) sells them as do others. Not being a perfectionist, I just paint with the same paint I use on the tractor, it burns off the exhaust part and remains on the intake -- the factory didn't give them special treatment anyway.
