Butch (and others),

I ran across this site today that sells Delstar on-line. The prices are real high for an AE but not that out-of-line with what you said was the price on a gallon of 60080. I couldn't find any listing of the DXR80 or the various DTR reducers anywhere on the site. I assume they sell those also since not to do so would make no sense. The stuff is far too expensive to mess around with generic additives.

They also list OMNI MAE but the prices for it are a lot higher than ones I saw locally a couple of years ago - MAE60080 was about $12-$13 per quart as I recall.

I noticed on the same site that you can look up the PPG code (with color chips) for just about any auto made since the horse and buggy. Too bad they don't also list tractors and other farm equipment.

Rod--that site is horribly over-priced. While I knew Delstar would be expensive (not THAT expensive), I notice that they sell premixed red colors, not what I would have to have mixed, of MAE for $120-$150 a gallon. Hardener is additional. I didn't look very hard, but I did not see MTK single stage listed, only base coat. Think I will stick with my overpriced dealer. Thanks for the link, though. Somewhere there is a sight that sells mixed paint that is usually cheaper than the local dealer (perhaps not after shipping charges), going to look for it next time I paint.

I agree, it's over-priced. The MAE costs seem to be way out of line. But so is the cost of Delstar, at least nowadays. Butch had a source for orange DAR at $165/gal. It is an excellent paint but it has priced itself right out of the market considering the lower cost alternatives. No wonder I can't find a PPG jobber within a hundred miles of me that stocks the mix tints for it.

I was surprised to not find the OMNI MTK on the site. When I last bought some two years ago at a local jobber, I paid $51.50 for a gal (orange cost class), $25.51 for a qt of MH168 slow hardener and $15.78 for a gal of MR186 med reducer. That's walk-in, off-the-street prices - no special discount. At a mix ratio of 4:1:1 color:reducer:hardener, that calculates out to $54 per RTS gal if you take a credit for the 3 qts of leftover reducer. I am sure it is somewhat more today but it still provides a very good value for a reasonable price. I have used quite a bit of Delstar in years past and liked it a lot. Is it so great that it is worth three times the cost of the MTK? No. Not in my opinion. However, the site is a source for anyone who can't get it in their local area and wishes to pay the price.

The last MTK I bought this past Sept was $94.57/gal,(IH 2150 red) 168 was $37.41, medium reducer was $20.91. I believe the only other paint dealer in town sells DuPont, hard telling what they charge. I'm glad I work slow and don't try to do more than about one of these things a year.

Boy, that's quite a difference in price for only a little over a year difference in time. Although red could be expected to be a little more than orange. Must be these products have significant regional cost variations. I notice the link is a supplier from California. Maybe that's why the excessive prices from them. High shipping costs may be also be buried in their listed prices.

Dealer knows my checks don't bounce, so he charges me full list. I need to find another source.
