Hello all,

I have been reading these boards and found them most usefull. I am in the process of restoring a 41 John Deere B for my first tractor. I live in Racine, WI and was wondering if there is anyone in SE Wisconsin, or Northern Illinois that does painting on the side. I have come to the conclusion I do not have the skills nor the money to buy all the painting equipment necessary.
So if you live in this area, have the time, and would be wiling to help me out, please post or email me so we can discuss terms and all the good stuff.

Matt

stop by and talk to one of your local auto body shops. they can suggest a local guy, probably one of them. most of the money goes into preping the machine. you can save by cleaning everything, doing your wire brushing and sanding, removing the parts not to be painted, etc. have it ready and just let them shoot it.

Hi Matt

Im up in Greenfield Wis, retired in my 60s and ready to try painting. My suggestion is get your feet wet and get started yourself. You will be extremly lucky to get a paint job done for less than 500 so if you are going to spend that amt you can get your own compressor and try the HVLP (hi volume low pressure) guns that are discussed on this site. Im told they are easier to use than the high pressure systems, less overspray and good coverage.

A little practice will be important and you will have some screwups but even the best painters started out this way. Good luck on your first venture

Don
