Worked on painting a tractor last nite, did all prep work, put primer on Tues. nite. Had some moisture in air lines and gfun was spitting???
After spraying for a bit on areas not so npticeable the gun cleared up and sprayed good. After refilling canister started spitting again.
Is moisture my problem?
If not what would cause spitting?
If moisture is problem, how can i remove moisture from tank and line and keep out?
Do have a small moisrure trap on compresser, but doesn't seem to keep moiasture out. When gun is working properly, paint looks goo.
Speedaire gun.
Thanks for comments, not looking for a pro job, just want it to looka bit better and easier to clean.

Check my reply (above) to Mike Holloway, about an air filter for your compressor and a water trap! RJ

One more thing to check if you are using a siphon type gun is be sure the cup vent is not clogged. Be sure that you don't over fill the gun to where the paint sloshes up and clogs the vent hole.

Good luck!

"Spitting" is a generic term used to describe any thing abnormal with a spray gun.

If you are getting drops of water on the surface then you know that water is the problem.

If you are getting little globs of paint, then you have lumps in the paint and this must be strained out. They are caused by paint that has settled out and not mixed very well. Try putting it in an electric or pnuematic paint shaker for several minutes.

Always strain paint and primer as it is poured in the gun.

And one very important thing: MAKE SURE THAT GUN IS CLEAN INSIDE. And not just in the cup.

Gravity fed guns have a little filter in the delivery tube just under the cup. Unscrew the cup and remove the filter and soak it in laquer thinner to disolve any build up. Use laquer thinner, a cloth and a piece of splintered off paint stick the clean the tube where the filter sets.

Remove the air cap and wash it out and wip off the fluid tip. Squeeze the handle and look inside the fuild tip. If you see a build of of materials then remove the needle and fluid tip and clean that area as best you can with wooden splinter and thinner.

The sealing washer under the the fluid tip can be damaged easily so be careful. If you are using a syphon fed gun, this sealing ring can give way and cause a spitting that sounds like a machine gun. Rapid spitting/hissing with little or no materials delevered to the fluid tip.

Be very careful in what you do. Any nicks or deformity of the working parts of the gun can ruin it.
