Has anyone out there tried using the Arm & Hammer washing powder in solution to remove the rust to allow removal of pistons stuck in sleeves or removable jugs? If so how did it work?
John

This should work just fine. I used it to remove rust from inside the water pump pully on my JD 440 - I let it work for 3 days and was able to pull the pully off and rebuild the pump. I,m sold on this process. It just removes the rust. Did not affect the press fit at all. Thanks Ed.

Read the postings on Electrolytic Derusting and rust removal.
It has been done on several hit & miss engines, and it helps a lot.

Franz,
I have read the previous posts on derusting using this method but wondered if would work for a piston/sleeve or piston/jug assembly since the derusting would have to take place inside the cylinder instead of on the outside as when doing a piece of sheet metal etc. I would assume it would help to figure out some way to position the scap metal inside the cyl without touching the piston or cyl wall like maybe a piece of rubber wraped around the inside of cyl?
Thank you for your reply
John

This is a new one. I am all in favor of trying new things, but in this case I would stick to PB Blaster or Marvel Mystery Oil. I suppose there could be some type of chemical reaction between the baking soda and rust, but the old ways have proven themselves many times over. If you try it and it works, let us know. Doc
