Decals general question

Most of what I see advertized these days are printed on self-adhesive mylar. In days gone by decals were printed on thin trasparent film and were slid off a paper backing after a short soak in warm water. I have the sense (maybe wrong) that the mylar film products would be too shiny on the clear areas and might show underlying surface imperfections of paint worse than the old fashioned decals. Is this true? If so, where can I get "real" decals for a Case Model L. If not true, then are any one brand of mylar decals better than another?

Thanks.

I uwed decals from Lyle Wacker on my 34 Case "L", and they worked perfect. He has an outstanding product, and you won't be disappointed in your purchase from him.

Just follow the link in Rod's post.

Hi Steve,

I believe the better decals nowadays are die cut vinyl. With those there are no clear areas as each individual letter is a separate, self-adhesive decal. At least that is the case for the main hood decals which are the most important and eye catching. Here's how they are installed and here's what mine look like:

I like to put a clear coat over them (and the entire part they are on) because it blends the sharp edges better into the surrounding painted area and looks a little more like they are actually painted on rather than being a decal. It also helps to protect the decal itself from minor scratches. You can see the edges a little better here:

I get my decals from Lyle Wacker. I see he also carries Case so you might want to check him out. Be prepared because they will be on the pricey side but I like them very much and wouldn't use anything else.

Wow Rod! Those colors are eye popping, looks great amigo! I've never had the pleasure to paint an Allis, what model is that? With that color scheme it would look great with a Union 76 meatball sticker on it some where. : ) Got pics of the whole thing?
Cheers!

Gene
