Im using an Optima HVLP gun with a 1.5 nozzle and it wont spray the Nason 2K well @ all. The primer is thick for one but doesnt call for any reducer. I had to jack the pressure up to 35 Lbs to get it to move @ all and even removed the needle and it sprayed better. Whats going on here?? I might have to spray this stuff conventionally. I really hate to due to the overspray and toxic nature of ureathane. Any ideas?

Exactly where, in relation to the gun, are you measuring the 35 psig pressure? For an HVLP gun, the manufacturer should provide the air pressure necessary right at the gun inlet opening to limit the cap pressure to the HVLP maximum of 10 psig. What is that stated pressure? It should be indicated right on the gun handle or in the instructions that came with the gun. For best operation, you should install a pressure gage directly at the gun inlet opening and set the pressure read on that gage to that recommended by the manufacturer. The gun air pattern adjustment should be wide open and the trigger pulled. There does not have to be any paint in the gun for this adjustment. If that does not resolve your problem, you should consider increasing the tip size to better accomodate what appears to be a surfacer type of "primer".
