does anyone know if PPG dx 1791/1792 is safe as an etch for omni mp170 epoxy primer?I know they are two different paint lines from the same manufacture. The paint man from napa says they are compatible but I,m a little leary. Any avice would be helpful. Thanks Dale L. from Mn.

The P-sheet doesn't list it. You can use 176. Why do you need an etch primer? On average, paint salesmen are one of the poorest sources of information, particularly where paint is not a major part of their business. The spec sheets are the only reliable source.

Most all the parts will be bare metal either by a wire brush or bead blasting. Do you think MP170 epoxy primer is good enough?

I have never blasted -- wire brushes leave sheet metal too smooth, far as I'm concerned, so I sand the sheet metal. I use Picklex 20 on everything, which I assume etches the cast enough to supplement my wire brushing. Cast does not sand well. There is some question whether phosphoric acid products should be used on cast since it is pourous -- I have had no problem that I am aware of.

You have to sand them anyway, sanding takes the place of etch.
