Restoring tips

I need some tips on restoring my JD 60. My biggest problem is that the tractor is 3 hours away on my in-laws farm, which means that I can only bring home parts that fit in my suburban and as time and travel permit.

I recently brought home the nose and started to knock out the dents. Once the dents are knocked out should I fill in with bondo, or another recommended product, or spray it with pickle X and wait until I get ready to paint this spring before filling in bondo.

My plans are to have the hood, nose and all other sheetmetal parts ready to go by spring, then over an extended weekend, sand and paint the tractor all at once.

I also have questions as to PPG Omni color numbers for JD green and yellow. From what I’ve been gathering off the board a good choice is one coat MP170, 2-4 coats MP181 with sanding between coats, then 3-4 coats MAE Acrylic Enamel.

Thanks for any info.

John

Body filler is one of the most time consuming processes. I would use Bondo now, and spray it with PPG Omni MP 170 epoxy or equivalent. Some people recommend epoxy, then Bondo, then epoxy again. If you use Picklex 20, you should keep it off the Bondo, that could be tricky, depending on how much Bondo you used, that's why I mentioned epoxy first. The epoxy will have to be scuffed and reapplied before the next coat of surfacer/paint is applied.
