i bought a $49 gun from Menards (lumber yard) several years ago and it works great for spraying. I paint about 1 tractor or truck per year. On the paint, adam is right, you get what you pay for. I use PPG automotive paint. Go to the local auto body shop in town and talk to him. Paint cost me $200. he may have a more economical recommendation. Price varies by color. I used a pint of hardener per gallon of the paint. Did it out doors. Good ventilation. I wear a face mask with cartrige, but not a air compressor system.

This is going to be echoed... You get what you pay for... Many have started out exactly like you... And most of use have now spent more than we can explain to our wives!!!
I would at the very least try to steer you away from "tractor" paint. It almost always is synthetic, and has a tendancy to fade quickly... Go with at least an acrylic enamal. It will take forever to dry with out hardener, but will be the safest way for you to deal with it. Hardener= money in saftey equipment....

PPG has a second line of paint. The brand name is Omni. It is 90 or 95% as good as PPG and costs about 1/2. Unless you want a high end, full out competition level job, Omni is a good, solid, economical choice. I find it is might nice to spray, also.
