I was wondering what all you guys charge for painting a tractor? Do you charge by the hour or just by the job? I seem to have got my self in the painting bussiness.

I do it by the job, it's too depressing to figure what it comes to by the hour since you can't charge enough painting tractor's. I start out at about $1,000 for a small easy tractor and go up from there. I use only automotive paints and primers and do only top quality work, if somebody wants a cheap or quick paint job I don't even pretend in being interested in doing it. Here is a picture of our IH 5488 that we painted this summer using PPG base coat/clear coat and I would charge close to $3,000 to do a paint job like this.

All depends on what they want to pay, and how nice they want it done. Also, the cost and quality of your materials plays a key role as well.

All my work is steam cleaned, fully stripped or media blasted, welded and filled, epoxy primed, and then top coated with a hardening urethane or enamel. All professional materials. Big $$ and done right.

Mike
