When painting a tractor that has been taken apart and painted then reassembled with new bolts, are the bolts left unpainted or painted? What did the factory do? If you paint first then assemble you may chip the paint,if you paint the bolt heads and assemble you chip the paint on the bolts. What is correct

There is a buddy of mine helping me repaint my Jubilee and i asked him the same question about what to do with the bolts. It may be a little more expensive but he said to replace the bolts with stainless bolts that you won`t have to paint and will not rust. He owns about 6 pullin tractors and thats what he does to them.Just a thought. Terry

IH used to assemble the tractor almost completely and paint everything red at one time on the letter series tractors.
I also like to paint pieces before assembly, but that means bolts and nuts will get some paint chipped off when I put it together. I use a small brush and touch them up. I don't know any other way around it.

Marshall, it probably depends on the tractor company.
~John Deere assembled most of the tractor then painted as an assembled unit.
~On my own restorations I paint most parts off the tractor then assemble & touch up the bolt heads & other minor damage. I epoxy prime the bolts & washers but don't paint final color until assembled then use an artist brush to paint bolt heads & washers,
