Is there something to prep the metal between sandblasting and primer? I can't sandblast everything in one day and don't want the metal to sit overnight exposed to moisture.

Either prime it with epoxy primer, or use a rust inhibitor such as Picklex 20. Kept dry, Picklex will last for months. So will epoxy primer, but it will have to be scuffed and reapplied if you are outside the window for topcoating -- the time is usually only 2-3 days --it varies with the manufacturer.

You can give the blasted area a light coat of thin oil; or something like WD40.Anything to protect the bare metal from oxidation.Just be sure to clean it off real good with a metal wash like metal prep. Or you could spray it with a good fAST evaporating paint thinner Then wipe it down with metal prep.Personally, I would do the left side and shoot it with primer and do the right side the next day.Find a good place to make the "break".

Try PPG 686 available at many auto paint dealers. It is a self-etching primer that is fast drying and sticks like nothing you ever saw. It is even hard to sand off. It ain't cheap but it works.
