I am getting ready to do some painting and the PPG I bought come with hardner I am fairly well experienced with useing a paint gun and and I currently have a 3M mask. I won't use the hardner unless I have a fresh air system I tend to paint alot of my equipment as I like to keep it all looking nice. Would it be a wise investment for me to get a Hobby Air with full mask if I do get one it will be the full mask set up that hardner and other things can't be good for the eyes. Any suggestions? Thanks, R Wyler

Get a full face mask or a hood. I have a hood -- advantage is the hose attaches to the back, and I can wear it with glasses. I don't believe the hood is made by Hobby Air, but is made for their system. See the link.

Ordered a hobby air w/full face mask.I will use it on my 50 jd .My son who is a auto body person who has painted for 10 years using the 3m throw away mask always using iso`s will also use it I sure hope. Sure is odd.I ask people all the time if they use an air system for hardeners, paint store guys, implement guys, even auto body guys, they almost all just use the 3m throw away mask.My son finaly said he thinks the supplied air is a good idea but would`nt go for it at 1st and he was taught about isos in votech.

Why is the pro air approved by niosh but the hobby air is not.Is the hobby air good quality or is it just acheap hobbist toy? Will it last ok or be junky? Will you need to do much maintainance on the system?I mean does it need filters often ect?or will a guy save money because you don`t have to buy the throw away mask any more?Would like to use some better paint on my projects but afraid to now because of no supplied air.Don`t think I can swing the pro air but don`t want to spend 500 on the hobby air and find out it was`nt verry good quality. Thanks a lot for any help.

Far as I can tell the quality is fine. The hood I am referring to is tyvec, they are replacable, and use the old framework and hose connections. The blower works fine, I have had no problems with it. It eventually produces warm air, if you wear it a long period of time, but actual use for painting time is small. I have read that it doesn't meet NIOSH specs because of the hose -- I cannot confirm this. The hose is plenty heavy, too heavy when you have to drag the thing around, and does not leak. NIOSH applies to industrial use, and the NIOSH specs probably call for things that a hobbiest does not need to be concerned about. All I care about is that it is positive pressure, meaning that NO isos get in. It is not a cheap hobbiest toy and is not junky. But, when you see it you will wonder why it costs $500 -- probably because of little or no competition, and that they can price it enough below NIOSH approved ones that they sell. I can see maybe $200-$300, but there is no choice unless you build your own.

Since I started this tractor hobby about 3 years ago, I have had to buy several things that cost a lot of money -- On the other hand, if I can't do it right, I'm not going to do it.

Thanks for the info yes that full mask is the only way to go I am sure, I wear glasses as well and that would help alot. It sure would feel good to know I am breathing clean and and not that filtered air. I just don't think it is worth it to take chances with ones health. R Wyler
