Fair Cost for Painting

I have Massey 255 that I use every day-no collector piece or anything.

It has become quite faded and I want to get the hood, side panels, and fenders painted.

I was thinking about taking them off the tractor myself, removing decals, and powerwashing and taking to a local bodyshop and have them do the bulk of the work-since I have no painting experience or a good facility/air at this time. I already have a set of replacement decals.

I have 2 questions:

1) Is there anything else I should do myself before taking it in that would save money-something to remove old paint, etc.

2) What is a fair cost to expect to pay to have this done?

Any input much appreciated.

Paul Butler

If it only the hood, side instrument console panels and fenders I would take them to the body shop as is. A good crew can have them stripped and sanded in an hour. If no bodywork is involved they can have them 'prepped' (stripped, sanded, primed and wet sanded) and painted in one day. Should cost no more than about 150 to 250 depending on the dent damage, level of corrosion and pitting in the metal. Hope this helps!
