This is my first time to use air tools. What is the purpose of a feeder hose? Can air tools be hooked up the the air hose directly? Appreciate any help.

I have several air tools with the "whip" hose on them and I like them. Die grinders and air rachets tend to be easier to handle with a 18-24 " small diameter hose on them. The coupler with the 3/8" hose on it is less manuverable (sp)and make the tool longer by about 2".
I have a 3/8" air rachet with a swivel and whip that after you use it in tight spaces you won"t want any other. Also, I do think its more of a mechanic thing, don"t see any in body shops.

Van

Hi Chad,

By "feeder hose" I assume you mean that short length of hose that is sometimes recommended to be attached directly to the tool inlet. I think it is also called a "leader hose". If that is what you mean, it's a good question. I'd like to hear a sound answer myself. I have used air tools for about 40 years and currently have about 15 different ones. I have never installed a hose length directly to the inlet. I consider that to be a real PITA. Can you picture storing 15 air tools, each with it's own length of "leader hose" attached? Gimme a break. Although it is not generally recommended, I have always installed the male half of a quick coupler directly to the tool inlet. Never a problem. Course I take care of my tools and don't throw them around so any potential increase for damage is not a factor for me to consider. I do, in many cases, use a six or eight foot length of 1/4" "whip hose" at the end of my normal 3/8" hose to make easier handling of small tools. However, the tools themselves all have quick coupler halves directly attached.

I'm with you on this Rod, while I'm aware of what a feeder or leader hose is, the porpose of it escapes me, I have responsiblity for Dupont auto finishes in 168 auto body shops and Dupont Industrial coatings for 3 states and have NO body using these short legnths of hoses, I think this more a mechanic thing, I can see it's probly a little easier to connect the cupplers together but hardly worth the extra fittings.
