Hi,
I am restoring a g706 moline. I have very little painting experience and tend to be a bit of a perfectionist. I would like for my tractor to look like the one in this picture when I am done or better. >Link

I>Link plan on taking each piece down to bare metal either with a sand blaster or by bead blasting the smaller pieces. my question is, after I get it down to bare metal, whats the next step, what products should I use to end up with that perfect finish. If I understand right duponts penske yellow is the correct color for the tractor, can you get that kind of shine from that paint or should I try to match the color to some type of automotive paint? I have already sunk several thousand dollars in this project getting it mechanically sound and dont want to start cutting any corners now or doing it wrong because I didnt know any better. I will appreciate any and all advice, Thanks in advance.

Hi
I will be a bit biased on product recommendation since I work for DuPont, after bare metal the most "bullet proof" system would be; epoxy primer, do all body repairs, 2K primer, then Imron Elite as a top coat. certainly everyone has an epoxy primer and a 2K primer, when it comes to topcoat the resin that makes up the coating is going to determine the characteristics, most eveyone has urethane and enamel topcoats, the Imron line resins are patented so there really is not a comparison, but basically it is a urethane.

from what I have found on the imron elite, there is a single stage, and a base coat, clear coat type, which is better, the base coat, clearcoat sounds like it is a little more chemical resistant and mentions being better at hiding. which will look the best. this tractor is going to be shown in competition at san antonio and houston ag mech shows so its got to shine. I know the dupont Penske yellow is the right yellow, what Brown is suposed to be used for The dyna brown color on the cast iron

I know that imron is great paint, I had my dragboat painted with it 12 years ago and it still looks great

Yes the base clear would best the best choice but it will also be the most costly, if thats OK we have a clear with teflon in it that would be really nice for your application, as for the brown I will get back to you as I don't have my tractor color reference with me now.

not sure what you mean by "different base stock", Imron is a patented paint line so theer are no direct equivalents, the old Imron is still around it has been renamed Imron 3.5, but the new Imron Elite will be replacing all the Imron qualities now available
